Pink Hair, Don't Care

Updated: Feb 17, 2020

A few months ago I decided that I was going to finally dye my hair pink. Well, not completely pink, I wanted a subtle rose gold or pastel pink balayage. It's something I have been thinking about for a while but I was hesitant. I was especially concerned it would be too expensive to maintain. Ultimately, I mustered the courage and went to the salon in August and voila, my hair was pink. But... it was costly and in order for the pink to last, my stylist suggested I get a much darker pink and wait for it to fade to the color I wanted in a few washes. She was very right. My hair was PINK when leaving the salon, like panic pink. It was not subtle at all- more like an in your face, here I am, boom kind of pink.

Although I liked the intense pink, it was certainly not what I sought when entering the salon and I looked forward to the color fading to the subtle pink that I really wanted. And it did, quickly... within two weeks the color had faded to a much more pastel pink color that I was really happy with.

Happily pastel pink a few weeks after my visit to the salon

But it soon started to fade until it was barely there. I really wanted to keep the pink but was not excited about paying salon prices again so I decided to start researching at home solutions. I am not usually a do-it-yourselfer when it comes to my hair because I have had some pretty unfortunate results throughout my life with highlights, hair color, and spur of the moment haircuts but I was determined to find a rosy solution.

The pink is almost all gone after a month

During a trip to Sephora, I came across a display of MOROCCANOIL Color Depositing Masks and I was intrigued. I went home and did some research and read many reviews on the product and decided to take the plunge.

A lot of reviewers said that the color came out unevenly on their hair so after reading the instructions carefully I purchased a Conair Rolling Comb which is designed specifically for applying hair treatments. This fantastic comb allowed me to make sure that I was able to get the most even application possible.

I used gloves because I was a little worried that I would come away with pink fingers but I am not sure if it was necessary because it did not transfer to my neck or face. I used a very generous amount of product and meticulously combed each section to ensure it was evenly distributed. After I finished applying the mask I waited a little longer than the suggested 5-7 minutes in the directions before rinsing. I was immediately impressed with the results; even before drying my hair I could tell that I was left with a good amount of color! Once dry, I was sooo happy to see subtle and evenly distributed rose gold.

All in, I spent just over $30.00 for the mask and the comb and have enough of the mask left over for at least one more application. I would highly recommend the MOROCCANOIL Color Depositing mask to anybody who is looking to try out a new fashion hair color or is looking to extend their salon color.
